The Salt Ash Inn is conveniently situated near the year round resorts of Killington and Okemo. The Bear Creek Club ski area is less than a 1/2 mile away. The quaint village of Woodstock is a short drive for shopping and dining. Well located at the junctions of Vermont Routes 100 & 100A in the town of Plymouth (the birthplace of President Calvin Coolidge), we are surrounded by four seasons of recreation. Considered to be one of the most scenic roads in New England, Route 100 runs north - south from the Canadian border to the Massachusetts state line. Route 100 is a popular scenic drive in the fall foliage season. In the spring and summer months, Route 100 is lovely for riding bicycles and motorcycles. We are located right on what is known as the Salt Ash Loop, an 18 mile trianglular road ride which passes the Coolidge Historic Site and the Long Trail Brewery, the Ottaqueechee & Black Rivers, Woodward Resevoir and more. Informative bike maps are available for guests of the Salt Ash Inn. For a mountain bike ride with amazing views, we recommend taking the K1 gondola to the top of Killington. There are numerous hiking trails and places to walk within a few miles of the Salt Ash Inn offering everything from a leisurley stroll to a technical peak climb. If golf is your game, we are are located 14.5 miles to the destination Green Mountain Golf Course.
Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States, was born in Plymouth, Vermont on July 4th in 1872. He died in 1933 at age 60 and every year on Independence Day, hundreds of Americans come to visit Plymouth for a procession from the village to the nearby cemetery where there is a ceremonial playing of "Taps".
The homes of Calvin Coolidge’s family and neighbors, general store, church, cheese factory, and 1924 Summer White House office have been carefully preserved, and many of the buildings have their original furnishings. The Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site is considered one of the best preserved presidential sites in the nation. |
